What this case is designed to prove

Verify that ClipCompat does not promise universal support for a HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2 source when actual decoding can depend on editor, OS, edition, hardware and drivers.

Expected behavior

What ClipCompat should report

  • Premiere on Windows should report a conditional hardware-dependent HEVC 10-bit 4:2:2 finding rather than a universal pass.
  • Resolve on Windows should report environment-dependent H.265 profile/chroma support; Free and Studio context should remain visible to the user.
  • The result should recommend testing the original before any transcode.

Development result

What we verified

The generated file uses a 10-bit 4:2:2 pixel format and HEVC Range Extensions profile. The fixture exists specifically to test cautious rule wording instead of binary compatibility claims.

Safe handling

Do not overwrite the master. If the exact editing setup cannot decode the source reliably, make a separate edit-friendly copy.

The same sample can intentionally produce different guidance depending on the selected editor target.
